We’re selling our reliable Ford Econovan which has been our home for 18 months while travelling around Australia. It’s the “maxi” model, which means that the body is about a meter longer than the regular one (extra spacious). If you are looking for a comfy van, it's definitely for you.
He's got enough space for two to spend a year around Australia, you’re able to cook and dine inside (really handy when it's raining!) everything to live and cook outside as well. You can make your home away from home with this van (we know, we did it!). It comes with heaps of stuff (listed below) you can just throw your backpack in and hit the road.
About the mechanics:
We had to put a quite a bit of TLC into our van when we bought it 18 months ago and have done some extensive work on it, which includes:
Replaced the old engine with a Reconditioned engine – 180,000km
New gear box and clutch
New timing belt
New radiator
New water pump
Bushes have been replaced
New back shock absorber
New starter
Breaks and windshield (Hail storm cracked it a month ago!) were replaced last week to get the road worthy certificate.
Serviced every 8.000 kms
Consumption is 12L/100kms
Comes with 6 month Queensland brand new rego.
We have all the mechanic’s bills to prove it and it has been working flawlessly for the last year.
Special features:
There are two batteries in this van - the classic starter one and a low cycle one for the fridge and convertor etc. The secondary battery is charged as you drive through a smart switch that will let you use both batteries when they are fully charged and then, when the main loses 25%, disconnects it so you’ll never have to push the van because you forgot the fridge on (talking from experience here!). If for some reason you need to jump start the van you can use the secondary battery to jump-start yourself – something we added when we bought the batteries. It’s all compatible with a solar panel if you feel like setting one up.

To securely store all of the stuff that comes with it, there is a massive high quality rhino rack roof box (400L) and the ladder to access it which is securely fastened to the roof.
There is also a giant awning to shade from the sun or hide from the rain that spans the length of the van and can extend up to 5 meters.
This van is designed like a small flat, you can fold the queen size bed into a sofa for the day and eat inside (there is a table which extends from 2 person to 4 person).There are lots of cupboards to store the items that come with the van and also space for your own things (so everything isn’t rolling around the van when you drive!).
